Around The Town

The site of the wedding is in Hopland, but most people will be staying in Ukiah. While Ukiah isn't a huge town, it has a lot of interesting places that are just a long stone-throw away.

Wine Tasting and Winery Tours
There are many wineries in the area (Mendocino County) and in neighboring Sonoma County. Tours happen on weekdays and weekends.
The Coast
A 40 minute drive takes you to the beautiful Mendocino coast line. Along the way, you can check out several state parks, including Hendy Woods (Cate worked there for two summers as a kiosk-girl). The towns of Mendocino and Fort Bragg provide some really good restaurants (see below) scenic views, and hikes. Be sure to bring an extra layer since it's at least 20 degrees cooler out there.
Restaurants & Food (Close by -- See internet for directions)
  • Schat's Bakery & Cafe ($) - Soups, sandwiches, salads, wedding cakes... In the Friedman Brothers home improvement store and another location on School Street. Within walking distance of hotels.
  • Applebees ($$) - Try the chimi-cheesecake. Within walking distance of hotels.
  • Ellie's Cafe (The Mutt Hut) ($) - Delicious chili-cheese-dogs. A non-diner greasy spoon place. Almost within walking distance of hotels (~1.5mi)
  • El Azteca ($) - Really good authentic mexican food. South end of Ukiah, within walking distance (< 1mi).
  • Ukiah Brewing Co ($$) - Mediocre food, good beer and isn't that what really matters? Almost within walking distance.
  • Patrona ($$) - Italian joint just off School Street (near Schat's).
  • North State Cafe - Nice cafe with full lunch/dinner options (near Schat's).
Restaurants & Food (Worth the drive)
  • Piacere ($$$) - Pretty good italian fare. Not much of a drive (Cloverdale) and the owners and chef are extemely friendly.
  • Hopland Inn ($$$$) - Tasty
  • Albion River Inn ($$$) - California "Coastal" Cuisine with a focus on seafood. Good food and a nice selection of scotches. On the coast near Mendocino.
  • Little River Inn ($$$) - California cuisine that has influences from a lot of other places (steak frittes, thyme broth braised rabbit, and bbq ribs on the menu). Good food. On the coast near Mendocino.
  • French Laundry ($$$$$$$) - Thomas Keller's flagship restaurant in Napa. According to Michelin it's "exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey."
  • Bear Republic Bar & Grill ($) - Standard american bar and grill, but with really good beer.
